Alice, Texas, USA, - The City of Alice was mentioned in local news media as being in arrears for a total of $214,946.81 with the City of Corpus Christi Water Department. The City of Alice wishes to clarify the local media report. It is our understanding that on March 27, 2018 a records request was provided by the City of Corpus to local news media which showed the City of Alice with a total balance due of the $214,946.81. Of that number $139,039.49 was the current billing that was not past due and $75,907.32 was under 30 days.
The delay in submitting the March 2018 payment of $75,907.32 was over questions of the date range and consumption reading on the bill compared to the date range and consumption reading according to City of Alice records and logs. The issue was eventually clarified and by that time the April 2018 bill for the amount of $139,039.49 was received on Tuesday April 17th. On Wednesday April 18th both bills were approved for payment and on Friday April 20th a check was mailed for the total of $212,808.55. On May 1, 2018, the check for $212,808.55 cleared the bank.
Furthermore, sometime towards the end of last year the City of Corpus Christi imposed an additional water charge. It is our understanding that our pre-1977 contract does not allow for any additional charges other that than the actual raw water consumption charges. We have been discussing with the City of Corpus Christi Utility Billing Department about the removal of this charge. Therefore, as of May 1, 2018 the City of Alice has a disputed balance of only $2,138.26
